Consequently, the goals of a family firm are likely to be broader than wealth maximization because this goal only addresses the business side of the family-business dyad. In this introduction to the special issue, we discuss how goal specification is directly related to the different approaches taken by scholars who have used dominant theories of the firm as frameworks for studying family business. We then provide the background for this special issue and introduce the individual papers included herein. Finally we make our conclusions.
