The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is an important cultural project of Mexico, being the main educator of Mexican professionals, and a national referral for public policies on sustainability. The university has 330,382 students, and produces 35.2 % of the scientific research in Mexico, as well as maintaining installations in Spain, US, Canada and China. According to Webometrics UNAM is ranked 36 globally, and is ranked at 72. In order to reduce the environmental impact of the university’s fundamental activities of teaching, research, and cultural diffusion, as well as to analyze and update curricula, UNAM developed the Strategy for a Sustainable University (EcoPUMA).
