Surface samples of the Orinoco river vvere collected during one seasonal cycle. DOC, DIC and POC were determined in order to estimate the carbon transport to the Ocean. Preliminary data on dissolved cations (calcium, magnesium and potassium), dissolved anions (bicarbonate, chloride, silicate and nitrate) and the suspended load in the Orinoco samples are compared with the corresponding data from the Caroni river, a black-water tributary.
