Descripción
The historical evolution of humanity has shown that cultures develop in better conditions when they are allied to the development of international trade routes and therefore of the oceans. That is why countries that have administered power in a hegemonic way have simultaneously had a relationship with the development and control of the ocean. At present, there is a factor that is associated and complements the previous variables, which refers to satellite technology, that in essence has allowed the control of international trade relations to be developed with higher levels of efficiency, effectiveness and efficacy (Fairbanks and Lindsay 1997, Mahan 2011). This chapter deals with criteria that allow us to understand the relationship between economic development, maritime transport and the condition of power of the countries that use the oceans efficiently and effectively and their impact on the development of humanity with regard to being in present times, by using satellite systems, a process of essential use in the transport of cargo and more specifically in the interoceanic domination and with this expansionism. Colombia’s situation is carefully reviewed with respect to the use of its maritime platform and what is being done with it today since the largest poverty settlements
