The work for this synopsis report was conducted as part of the project on Sustainable Agricultural Development in the Central and Eastern European Countries (CEESA) funded under the EU 5th Framework Programme. The project analysed the context and prospects for sustainable agricultural development in twelve Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs): Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine. The research group was composed of researchers from universities and research institutes from these CEECs as well as from the Humboldt University of Berlin, University of Helsinki, Wageningen University, and University of Newcastle upon Tyne and the FAO Sub-Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe, Budapest.
