Descripción
Striving to reach the human potential within ourselves and creating spaces for others to do so, in any field, is not an easy task. This chapter point outs how the kind of successes the students experience make a difference, independent of what grades they receive or what their test scores may look like. The chapter argues that these school events are the kind that need to occur nation-wide in order to prevent the high drop-out rates and failures that Latino youth face today." Youth growth and empowerment" was an organizational motto and the school had been conceptualized in this framework. During the first stages of the environmental science curriculum the Toxic Avengers, as the youth involved in the project soon came to be known, were engaged in observations, analyses, and reading and writing about what they saw in the different environments and what the photographs revealed.
